Hello!

I wanted to share a few of my tips for caring for your Luxy Hair Extensions (although this applies to all extensions!) that I have learned over the past few years. I’ve worn lots of other extensions and I haven’t loved any like I love my Luxies! I’ve worn them off and on for about 4 1/2 to 5 years and I’ve learned a thing or two! Extensions can be so expensive, so they are an investment for sure. I hate spending a ton of money on one thing, and when I do I want it to last me a long time, preferably forever 😉

The truth is, the better you care for your extensions, the longer they will last and better they will look… Funny how that works! I remember never knowing how to care for my extensions and so I had to constantly be buying a new set! So, save yourself some money and apply these tips:)

1. Don’t Wash Them Often

Gross, right? But truth be told, there really is no reason to wash them since they don’t produce oils so washing them just drys them out and damages them. I usually wash mine (just to keep them clean every so often from day to day wear… Or, like when I spill something on them! Haha) and when you DO wash them (they recommend every 10-15 wears but I go 20-30!) use a mild shampoo, preferably one designed for extensions, so I doesn’t dry then out too much.

2. Go Easy On Them

I was in California a while back and went to the beach in Carlsbad. I loved my luxies so much I wanted them for the beach…

WORST MISTAKE EVER

I spent the whole day wearing them and even though they were braided, it was the worst thing I could have done. I spent about 45 minutes to an hour trying to brush them out, it was horrifying and ended up buying a new set! You have to go easy on them and not wear them when you’re swimming in the ocean, or playing sports, etc. It tangles and damages them (sometimes, in my case, beyond repair)

3. Brush Them Often

Another tip I’ve discovered is to brush them often! I carry a extension spesific brush around with me and I make sure to brush them (gently!) 2-4 times throughout the day, because ones they get knots, it’s damaging to get them out.

4. Avoid Heat

The rule is: healthy hair and hot tools are not friends. The same goes with extensions, only you can’t repair them like real hair, so any damage done is permanent.

5. Do Not Sleep In Them

Last but not least, is to make sure you take them out before bed. Not even for the sake of your extensions, but also your natural hair, because the clips can be hard on it sometimes and you have to take a break every so often! So take them out before bed, and you’ll keep them lasting longer!
