Hey Guys,

A little while back I connected with Della Designs and they offered to send me a hand crafted print with my favorite quote. They are the sweetest girls and I LOVED working with them!

“Comparison is the Thief of Joy”

This quote has meant a lot to me throughout the years as I have tried to successfully find happiness while I navigate through my teens and early 20’s. I’ve thought a lot about this epidemic of negative thoughts, body shaming and comparison. I have fallen victim to it myself at times. Recently, I realized that If you are focused on other people’s lives and what they are doing and what they have by what they choose to post about on social media, you will rob yourself of happiness and gratitude for your own life and your blessings. You will never find joy, or self worth. I can say that from personal experience.

Think about how you view yourself, and how you let the world infulence that image.
When we compare ourselves to others– from people we don’t know to people we know really well- it really does rob us of Gratitude for what we do have and who WE are.

I have found myself countless times scrolling through hundreds of perfectly edited pictures on social and without fail I always am left feeling insecure, competitive and jealous, and ultimately thinking less of myself. It’s human emotion, but it’s not healthy and if we let thoughts like that into our minds, it hurts us.

I’m not suggesting that we don’t use social media at all, but that we are mindful that just because somebody posts the highlights of their day, or vacation, or their life, does not in any way at all make them any better or special than you. We can be happy and supportive for somebody else without questioning our own worth and happiness or accomplishments.

I was out with a friend the other night and she told me I looked pretty that day. My instant response to her was “you look prettier.” and she looked at me seriously and said:

“Why are you comparing us?”

That really impacted me, because innocently I was trying to compliment her, but I realized that I was comparing us, and belittling myself in the process.

We all have unique talents and gifts that give us our individuality and when we all unite together, we are stronger and better. We are not meant to look the same, talk the same, or dress the same. God is the creator of diversity. And I believe in the beauty of that.

So, let’s all embrace daily the things that make us unique, and be fearless in the persuit of being our truest selves.

This week I’m setting an intention to really be grateful for and love who I am, and who I am not. I believe it’s a really powerful gift to be able to really know who you are and what you contribute, because I really believe that we ALL — every single one of us– have amazing things to contribute and ways that we bless other people. Have a great Sabbath Day and I hope this post inspired you to love yourself just a little bit more.

I love you all,

XOXO, Mykel Elizabeth
