Hello Friends,

I wanted to share a little bit today about this look with you today and a life update! It’s been a while since I have done both!

For starters, this location was in Tucson, Arizona. It was my first time shooting here and I really enjoyed it. This look was very inspired by the pieces all compiled together, and they individually made up this really cute retro outfit. I found pieces that I loved while shopping, and just being out and about, and then when I started to put them together, it just all sort of fell into place.

Sometimes I have really specific ideas for looks, and other times they sort of just come together on their own.

I have been really loving the denim, especially worn, faded denim.

a splash of print has been my jam lately, and I think it adds a lot to an outfit to have some print to break things up.

if you’ve been following me for a while you know how much I love a good vintage blouse, and this one was no exception.

These are my favorite glasses from Quay Austrailia I have been looking for a good pair of retro glasses, and these were perfect.

I found this this vintage bag while I was out doing some shopping and I loved the combination of floral with cheetah print. I have been trying to do more outfit posts, so I will do my best to be better about that this year!

LIFE UPDATES:

I want to give you guys a little life update as well while I am at it! My most read posts are life updates, so I always want to make sure I do them as often as I can! Thank you for reading them!

  • I am still living in Arizona. My sister moved here not too long ago, and she brought her dog (my bff) with her, Custo. We are one happy family right now!

  • Mykel Elizabeth Collection will be launched this SPRING! I am so excited. It has been no small task getting this into production, and there are obstacles everyday, but I really love it. It is a dream come true for me to be able to design (and now sell!) my own skirt designs. I have spent months and months working on designs, photoshoots, and just production of everything. I am still so new to it all but I have a really awesome team I am working with.

  • 2019 will be a year of travel for me, I have some really exciting trips in the works, and I am excited to start branching out more and experiencing new things!

  • Late last year I started doing some public speaking, and this year I am booking quite a few more opportunities to speak, which has been such an amazing dream come true for me as well. I recently had one in Tucson, Arizona and I loved it so much. My presentations are about social media marketing, but a lot of what we talk about is how to make you goals come true. It is one of my favorite things in the world to be able to help people accomplish their dreams. There is such a special energy that comes into the room when a group of people get together and talk about their goals and dreams. It was really such a fulfilling experience for me, and I hope that part of my career never goes away.

  • I am still teaching for AVEDA. Most of you know I have been with Aveda since I was 17, and I don’t see that part of my career going anywhere either, no matter how busy I get, Aveda will always be such a huge part of my life and being and educator, and working on the editorial team has been one of my greatest accomplishments!

  • Very recently, I have realized a lot of things about myself and my life (I encourage you guys to do some soul searching this year, you might find some really cool things) and I have discovered that I have a constant need to always make people happy, and it has been an exhausting process. Without going into details, I just wanted to say that I think it’s important that we support other people and care about other people, but not at the expense of our own health, or happiness. Sometimes you have to protect yourself, and that includes letting go of people or situations that aren’t healthy. It has been one of my hardest lessons I have had to learn in my life, and I am really grateful that recently I have been able to really embrace and understand that concept and what it looks like.

  • Running my brand, and now my collection, has been a dream come true but it has not come without a lot of sacrifice, discouragement and lots and lots of sleepless nights, working towards deadlines, all while trying to stay relatable, keep the “creative energy” it takes, and managing a normal life at the same time. I have been doing a lot better job at it, and I think that even if you have something you are passionate about, try to find balance and maintain good relationships and friendships and familyships (I made that word up) maybe this is just for myself, and you might not even need to hear this, but it’s a huge update in my life, a big realization I have had and I wanted to share.

  • I am working on finding a good office space at the moment. My sister and I have thrown around some ideas of getting a house with extra rooms for an office for me, and one for her. The more things are expanding the more I realize how much more space I need, haha! And our house now just doesn’t allow me the room I need, and the space to do what I need to do, creatively. So I will keep you posted on that.

  • Lately, I have been really into vintage shopping. I always have been, but lately its the only kind of shopping I do! You might see that reflected on my instagram! Haha, but its been a favorite past time of mine. While I was home for the Holidays my mom took me and my sister to this huge amazing antique mall that my sister’s boyfriend owns. I had to resist buying everything (seriously you guys the only thing that held me back was that I am trying to save money, and I didn’t have ANY extra room in my suitcase)

  • Speaking of saving money, that’s something a few of you have asked about. I have a lot of financial goals for myself this year, and that all begins with being really good at budgeting. I have been educating myself on budget, debt, all of that good stuff. Low key I hate it, but I love how I am seeing it pay off, and it’s a large goal of mine.

  • My favorite shows at the moment are This Is Us (of course) The Resident, New Amsterdam, 9-1-1, A Million Little Things, and Manifest. So far I love the story lines, but I am not opposed to jumping ship on one of my favorite TV shows when I don’t like whats going on. Sometimes I feel like TV show always have to have so much drama, so sometimes after a while I get annoyed (to be honest this usually happens when my favorite couple of the show breaks up, i’m like okay im out, haha)

  • Lately I have been listening to a lot of Leon Bridges, Beyonce and (of course) Drake 😉 and when I have time a favorite past time of mine at the moment is watching comedy videos. My sister and I recently discovered two of our favorite comedians and most of our conversations are about that, haha. One night we just sat up for hours and hours and watched video after video on her bed, and my favorite part was CusCus even laid with us, it was so cute (he’s such a huge dog that he isn’t the best cuddle partner, so when he does its the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. We are obsessed with him, if you couldn’t tel!)

    Thank you guys for reading!

    XX, MYKEL ELIZABETH
